The story of the Lightfoots began in 2010, but the inception of Matchstick Websites began even earlier when Kelly launched Ampersand, a branding and graphic design firm. Then, in 2015, with a growing demand from clients needing new websites, Andrew saw an opportunity. With his background in software consulting and computer technology, he launched Matchstick, first working with Ampersand’s clients then soon taking on new projects across the country. In 2018, with Matchstick growing rapidly, Kelly stepped away from Ampersand to dedicate her time to working alongside Andrew. And in the middle of all that business development, Mae joined the party!
As early as age twelve, Andrew Lightfoot was tinkering with technology and building his own computers. What started as a hobby, led to an interest in the inner workings of hardware and software, alike. In high school, Andrew taught himself HTML code and began building websites for friends and family. As a young adult, Andrew spent a season as a software consultant and found tremendous joy in constructing customized software platforms while working closely with each corporate client to determine their unique objectives.
With a passion to see local businesses and non-profits establish a credible web presence, Andrew launched Matchstick in October of 2015 and works closely with each client to achieve that exact objective. Andrew is a proud member of both the Independence Chamber of Commerce and Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and recipient of the Emerging Business of the Year Award.
Since designing her first t-shirt in fourth grade, Kelly has always had a passion for graphic design. Even before completing her degree in Commercial Art at the University of Central Missouri, Kelly was working in the industry. With over twelve years as the owner of Ampersand, a local branding and design company, Kelly also channels her fierce love of typography and her branding experience into websites. Working alongside Matchstick clients, brand consistency and fresh design become apart of every new website launched. In 2014, Kelly was named the Rising Star by the Independence Chamber of Commerce and in 2016, a Woman of Distinction by the Examiner. She has served on the Board of Advisors for Wise Women and is the artist behind The Lightfoot Collection. Kelly is also a keynote speaker and welcomes speaking engagements on a number of topics including life, faith, and business.
“We absolutely love working with Matchstick Websites. Andrew and Kelly are amazing at what they do. They were able to take our ideas, give us some vision and guidance, and create a website that exceeded our expectations. It is beautiful visually, functions flawlessly, and is so easy to navigate as the site owner. They truly care about us as clients and have always done their best to go above & beyond what we have asked of them. We cannot recommend them enough!”
